History Challenge 08/30/10 Jacob Duche and the First Prayer
This week’s prize is the “1599 Geneva Bible – Patriot’s Edition“
When the first Congress of the United States met on September 7th, 1774, it began with prayer which lasted for hours. Reverend Jacob Duche read from this Psalm, which afterwards they felt God used it to speak direction into their lives. “It was enough,” said Mr. Adams, “to melt a heart of stone. I saw tear gush into the eyes of the old pacific Quakers of Philadelphia.” John Adams in a letter to his wife also stated: “I never saw a greater effect upon an audience. It seemed as if Heaven had ordained that Psalm to be read on that morning.” Which book of Psalm did Reverend Jacob Duche read from that morning?
