History Challenge 9/22/08

This week’s prize is the new book by Newt
Gingrich Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less

On September 25th, 1775, this American Patriot was captured by
the British after an ill-timed attack on the British-controlled city
of Montreal.  He was imprisoned in England for more than two
years until being returned to the United States on May 6th, 1778, as
part of a prisoner exchange. Following his release, he returned to
his home of Vermont and spent the rest of his life petitioning the
Continental Congress to grant statehood to Vermont. He is probably
better know for his leadership of the “Green Mountain Boys” and his
role in capturing Fort Ticonderoga to which he demanded surrender
from the British commander “in the name of the Great Jehovah and the
Continental Congress.” Name this Patriot.   Submit Answer Here!!!!
