History Challenge 09/28/09 – Taxing Incomes
This History Challenge is now closed.
This week’s prize is the book “FairTax: The Truth: Answering the Critics“
On February 25th, 1913 the ________ Amendment to the Constitution was adopted. It gave Congress the power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States and without regard to any census or enumeration. Later in October of that year congress passed a graduated tax system, promising only to tax the rich with rates starting at 1 percent and rising to 7 percent for taxpayers with incomes above $500,000. Four years later on October 3rd, 1917 with a war to pay for, congress passed the War Revenue Act, lowering the number of exemptions and greatly increasing tax rates. Under the 1917 act, a taxpayer with an income of only $40,000 was subject to a 16 percent tax rate, while one who earned $1.5 million faced a rate of 67 percent. Which Amendment to the Constitution gave Congress the power to tax incomes?

Watchman, Truth, Freedom, and Tea Parties!
Ezekiel 33 “… 6 ‘But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require from the watchman’s hand.’
Well, I don’t want blood on my hands so I better blow the trumpet!! Here goes – the enemy is approaching and the sword is in the form of government control and the coming economic collapse (you can not spend and print money and expect the dollar to maintain its value-period) is near. Please, heed the warnings from the watchman (tea party members), don’t trust the media to tell you the truth, don’t mock it if you don’t understand it, and by all means go see for yourself what it is all about. Are you really willing to give up your freedom because your to lazy to find out what’s going on; does truth mean so little to you? What will you say to your children and grand children when they ask you: “What was so important that you were willing to trade our freedom for”? Will you say that I was to busy with golf, biking, camping, fishing, boating, sports, American idol, facebook, or whatever your particular hobby is. Will you tell them that you thought it would be better for government to run everything – really (open a history book)! Or will you tell them that you didn’t believe it was happening (like the pre war Germans). There will be no excuse that your children and grand children will accept; you will either be the generation that restored freedom or the generation that gave it away for some false sense of safety in the form of socialism (poison candy). Time is running out (the enemy is getting closer), so make a choice!!
“A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.” – John Adams
History Challenge 09/21/09 Battle of the Argonne Forest
This History Challenge is now Closed.
This week’s prize is the new book by Glenn Beck “Arguing with Idiots: How to Stop Small Minds and Big Government“
The Meuse-Argonne Offensive (also called the Battle of the Argonne Forest) began on September 26th, 1918. The offensive was a part of the final Allied offensive of World War I that stretched along the entire western front. The objective was to breach the Hindenburg line and ultimately force the opposing German forces to capitulate. During the battle on October 8th one of the greatest single achievements of the war was performed by this corporal from Tennessee. As a member of a patrol sent to silence a group of German machine-gun nests, he personally killed more than twenty Germans and then forced a German major to order all his soldiers to surrender, taking 132 prisoners in all. That night after recounting the day’s events in his diary, he wrote “So I am a witness to the fact that God did help me out of that hard battle; for the bushes were shot up all around me, and I never got a scratch”. For his heroism he was promoted to Sergeant and received the Congressional Medal of Honor! Name this corporal (later Sergeant) from Tennessee.

In his Farewell Speech on September 19th, 1796 this president made the following statement: “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to Political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would the man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great Pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men and Citizens. The mere Politican, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them.” Name this President.

Hollywood’s Pledge and then Red Skelton’s Pledge.
Hollywood Stars: ‘I Pledge To Be A Servant To Our President’ – I thought the President was a servant to the PEOPLE (Silly me with my old outdated freedom loving ways). Didn’t the Hitler youth have to make a pledge to their beloved leader -also? Well, I know this is just Hollywood and it’s just for the “better good” and is voluntarily (for now). Still, I think I’ll make my pledge to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands!!
