He has destroyed nations from the maps of history for their sins. Nevertheless, my hopes prevail generally above my fears for our Republic. The times are dark, the spirits of ruin are abroad in all their power, and the mercy of God alone can save us.” Name this President.

History Challenge 12/21/09 – Merry Christmas
Luke 2: 9-14 (NASB) And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them (the shepherds), and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. “This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”

In protest of the 1773 Tea Act; on December 16th of that year, a group of Massachusetts colonists disguised as Mohawk Indians board three British tea ships moored in Boston Harbor and dump 342 chests of tea into the water. Patriot leader Samuel Adams organized the now-famous “Boston Tea Party” with about 60 members of this group. Name this patriot group of colonists.

This weeks prize is the book “War Stories II: Heroism in the Pacific” with Oliver North

In America’s darkest hours comes the awakening of heroes. Such is the case on December 7th, 1941 where many went above the call of duty to defend Pearl Harbor in the surprise Japanese attack. Fifteen men received Medals of Honor for their heroic actions on that Sunday morning (Only five of those men survived their moment of heroism). In remembrance of Pearl Harbor day, please take some time reading and reflecting on the sacrifices of so many on that terrible day. Submit the name of just one of those Medal of Honor recipients for this week’s history challenge.
