March 11th, 1967 was one of the heaviest battles of this operation during the Vietnam war. The operation begun on February 22nd and was the largest U.S. airborne operation since World War II. The purpose of the operation was an effort to smash the communist stronghold in Tay Ninh Province and surrounding areas along the Cambodian border northwest of Saigon. The operation was the largest operation of the war to date, involving more than 25,000 troops.
