This history challenge is now closed. Check commments section below for the answer and winner infomation.

This week’s prize is the Books “Under God” and “Living Under God” by Toby Mac

In the spring of 1775 in Concord, MA an ordinary country preacher started to analyze the rapidly changing events in the colonies and knew he had the power to either promote or discourage the call to arms locally. After much prayer and study, he came down on the side of armed resistance saying The colonists should go forth into war assured that “the Lord will cover your head in the day of battle and carry you on from victory to victory” and that in the end the whole world would realize “that there is a God in America”. On April 19th, 1775 the first shot, the famed “shot heard round the world” was fired, and the war for Independence began. Name this country preacher from Concord, MA (Hint: he was also the grandfather of the famous author Ralph Waldo Emerson).

By the rude bridge that arched the flood, Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled, Here once the embattled farmers stood, And fired the shot heard round the world. Concord Hymn
