Although the exact birthday of this inventor is unknown, some sources indicate it was July 12th, 1864. He was an agricultural chemist of international fame who introduced hundreds of uses for the peanut, soybean, pecan and sweet potato which revolutionized the economy of the South. In 1921 he spoke as an expert to the United States House of Representatives (Ways and Means Committee) about the potential uses of the peanut and other new crops. At the end of his address, the Chairman of the Committee asked: “…How did you learn all of these things?” He answered: “From the old book”. Chairman: “What book’? He answered: “The Bible.” The Chairman inquired: “Does the Bible tell about peanuts?” He answered: “No sir, but it tells about the God who made the peanut. I asked Him to show me what to do with the peanut, and He did.” Name this inventor.

This week’s prize is the “American Patriot’s Bible” The Word of God and the Shaping of America
On July 8th, 1776 the Liberty Bell rung out from the Pennsylvania State House (now known as Independence Hall) to announce the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence by Colonel John Nixon. The bell was ordered in 1751 by the Pennsylvania Assembly to commemorate the 50th anniversary of William Penn’s “Charter of Privileges“. As the bell was created, the biblical quotation “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof” was particularly apt. For the line in the Bible immediately preceding “proclaim liberty” is, “And ye shall hallow the 50th year.” Name this biblical quotation (what Bible verse is on the Liberty Bell -book, chapter, and verse #).
