In a bold act of patriotism this First Lady saved important state papers and the full-length portrait of former president and national icon George Washington on August 23rd, 1814. As British troops where marching to Washington D.C. she took the time at great risk to herself and saved these important state items while leaving behind many personal belongings. The White House was set on fire the next day by British troops. Name this First Lady.
